About Miss Bogner
Hi! I'm Miss Bogner, and I am the 5th grade teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School in Pekin, IL. This is my fifth year at St. Joseph, but I also taught 6th grade Language Arts at a public school for three years. I love working at St. Joe's, where education and faith are brought together.
I am also the Director of Religious Education and Youth Group Leader at my parish, Immaculate Conception, in Lacon, IL. I am starting my ninth year in the position and am a life long member of the parish. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Western Illinois University and have endorsements in Middle School, Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies.
I grew up on a farm, where I still love to hang out when I visit my parents. I also have two younger sisters and two brothers-in-law, and we are a very close family. I also have an adorable niece named Violet, and two handsome nephews named Oliver and Theo. In my spare time, I like to visit my friends, read great books, and make all kinds of crafts.
I am excited to start a new year with you in our 5th grade classroom!

for Miss Bogner from the U Survey:
What is your favorite book? (x 5)
Do you like saxophone music? & What kind of music do you like?
What is your favorite movie? (x 2)
What is the choices chart?
Do you like teaching 5th grade?

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
- This question is nearly impossible to answer... I love the Bible, as a kid my favorites were the Little House books, now I love the kids' books by Shannon Hale, and my favorite adult author is Dee Henderson. Mysteries, historical fiction, Jane Austen, and books about Saints…I just love reading, so I have lots of favorites! A few great books I’ve read recently were All the Light We Cannot See, The House at Riverton, and Death Comes to Pemberly. Some of my favorite kids’ books are The Goose Girl, Chains, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Anne of Green Gables.
- Not much. We have a few calculators to use for projects, but you won’t regularly use calculators in math until Jr. High.
Do you like saxophone music? & What kind of music do you like?
- Of course! I love the sound of all different styles and genres of music. I really like country and contemporary Christian music, and lately I have been listening to a lot of bluegrass and Irish music. My favorite instruments to listen to are the strings- especially guitar and violin. Unfortunately, I have no musical talent, so I don’t play any instruments.
What is your favorite movie? (x 2)
- It’s impossible to choose only one! Sound of Music, Return to Me, and Emma are a few of my favorites.
What is the choices chart?
- We’ll talk more about the chart the second week of school. The chart has to do with privileges. There are many special things you get to do at SJS, and they are a privilege for good behavior and doing your job as a student. The choices chart helps us keep track of how you have earned (or lost) certain privileges.
Do you like teaching 5th grade?
- Of course! It is my favorite grade :). I have taught 6th grade before, and work with all ages of kids at my church, but I think there is something very special about being in 5th grade!
What did you do in college?
- I attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria for two years and then finished my teaching degree at Western Illinois University in Macomb. While in college, I was involved in clubs for people who planned to be teachers. I also was very involved in WIU’s Newman Center, which is the Catholic Church for students on campus. I helped with Bible Studies, retreats, dinners, etc. and made lifelong friends. I also worked part time at a day care working with all ages of kids, from little tiny babies to 12-year-old students.
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
- I have two favorite things to do with my free time. I love to curl up with a good book, cup of coffee, and read. I also love making crafts of all kinds- sewing, scrapbooking, painting, etc.
- Actually sports, are not my favorite thing. I appreciate the talent it takes to play and don’t mind watching, but I don’t have any particular team alliances. :)
